Ward Goodman are proud to support the local community. Recently, we were match sponsors for a game at Blandford Rugby Club.
On Saturday 1st February Blandford Welcomed Puddletown to Larksmead, following a closely fought draw in the corresponding away fixture before Christmas.
Blandford started brightly, with a successful penalty goal from fly half Boardwell Miller within a few minutes. Then followed a period of Blandford dominance with D. Mitchell and Boardwell Miller crossing twice before the 20 minute mark. Puddletown then rallied and stiffened their resolve in defence, gaining good field position and exerting some pressure on the Blandford line. This pressure resulted in a penalty, which Puddletown centre Elwood duly slotted. A second flurry of Blandford tries followed shortly before half time, with Shafford crossing twice and Kelly going in under the posts.
During half time, coach Richings suffled the pack, withdrawing the influential Ricketts and introducing Kerley and M. Mitchel into Blandford’s pack. The second half followed the same pattern as the first, with Blandford spending large parts of the game soaking up Puddletown pressure and launching well constructed attacks when the opportunity arose. Boardwell Miller finished off a fine performance completing his hattrick, and D. Mitchell and Kelly both picked up a second each. With ten minutes to go, Puddletown launched an attack from within their own half; with centre Yeatman executing a delicate chip over the Blandford rush defence for his centre partner Elwood to collect and run the length of the field to score. This was not converted.
Final score was 57-8. Ward Goodman Man of the Match was presented to Blandford No.8 Angus Hogg, for incredible work rate and physicality in defence.
