How our accountants in Wimborne are helping charities and the local community

Ward Goodman | Charity and Community

For us at Ward Goodman, being active members of our community, and supporting both local and national charities is a key part of how we want to do business. That’s why our accountants in Wimborne are proud to offer specialist charity accounting services, whilst also taking part in regular fundraising activities. Read on to discover just some of the ways we support charities and the local community.

We specialise in ‘not for profit’ and charity accounting

We know that the needs of the majority of charities, community organisations and businesses within the ‘not for profit’ sector are unique. That’s why our Wimborne and Ferndown Accountants have a very versatile approach when it comes to the charity accounting services that we offer.

Our specialist advisors always endeavour to provide the guidance that their charitable or not for profit clients require to help them to be successful.

Not only does being specialist charity accountants mean that our clients benefit from a superior service that is more relevant to their needs, it means that they can get better customer service too.

Our accountants aren’t stretched between multiple specialities, meaning that they can provide unrivalled attention to their clients.

Clients such as The Allendale Centre and The Priest House Museum choose Ward Goodman for a range of charity accounting services, which includes; statutory audits, financial reporting, governance, gift aid and much more. Our accountancy office benefits from a dedicated charity team

Having a team of accountants that are specially trained and working solely on charity accounting means that our clients get the expert financial advice they need, from someone who really understands and is passionate about the sector.

Our charities team is lead by Jen Richardson, who as well as being a qualified chartered accountant, also holds a diploma specifically in charity accounting. Not only does Jen head up our team, but as a treasurer and trustee to a number of charities herself, she is well equipped to provide relevant guidance and support to charitable organisations, regardless of type or size.

Jen has successfully built a team of trusted accountants to support her with our charity offerings. All team members are given extensive training on not only the intricacies of the accounting practices needed to offer a comprehensive charity accounting service, but on how to communicate effectively with trustees, management and volunteers.

We host an annual Dorset Charities Conference

Through our extensive experience of working with charities, we came to understand that it can often be difficult for organisations within this sector to know who to turn to for advice. Because of this, eight years ago Ward Goodman launched the first annual Dorset Charities Conference.

The aim of the event is to connect local charities with other industry experts through networking opportunities. The day also features a selection of expert speakers who conduct informative presentations on a number of different topics, and allows the attending charities to meet leading sector suppliers who can help them with a variety of business needs.

This year’s conference is taking place on the 4th of July at Bournemouth University. To find out more, or book your space, click here >>.

We take part in regular fundraising activities

We don’t just support charities with our accounting expertise, but by using our free time for fundraising and charity events too.

Our accountants in Wimborne are always keen to support the local community, so the year is often packed with a variety of ways to raise money.

In fact, one of our own auditors, Dan Snoxell, went on to win the charity competition ‘Business Come Dancing 2018’ with his Irish Jig – raising £295 to go towards a mini MRI scanner for the Bournemouth Hospital Charity. Read more about Dan and his fancy fundraising footwork here >>.

Other fundraising activities that our team have taken part in included organising a charity quiz night in aid of Naomi House and Jacksplace, organised by Liz from our Wareham accountants office. The night was a great success with lots raised for the chosen charities. Not only this, but a number of members of our team are currently in training for a 5k charity run in support of The Forest Holmes Hospice and Breast Cancer Support, and we’re also planning an afternoon tea to fundraise for Breast Cancer Care in July.
